The Fruits of Barrenness

Too many couples today suffer from the tragedy of infertility, or barrenness. But barrenness is nothing new. In the ancient Bible stories, God would sometimes intercede. In their helplessness, people turned to God, and He provided.

Ironically, this sense of barrenness doesn’t stop when children finally enter the picture. In fact, in some ways, children only increase the need to rely on God in the midst of our helplessness.

Parenting strips you of your selfishness. It teaches you the true meaning of sacrifice. It brings you to your knees when you realize you can’t always protect your children from pain or from the consequences of bad choices.

Your fierceness of love should remind you that God feels the same way. He loves you with everything He is and feels the same pain when you don’t receive His provision and protection.

If you’ve felt at the end of your rope as a parent, use that barrenness to utterly rely on Him.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. —Proverbs 3:5
