The Fragmented Life

The Fragmented Life

It’s not just what’s in your house.

We also can make our lives too complicated. We juggle too many projects. We overcommit to clubs or church or kids’ activities. Or due to social pressure, we divide our persona between who we are in front of others and who we are in private.

The work it takes to manage such a fragmented life wears us to the bone.

In the same way you purged your stuff, then, you may need to purge the activities or people that just don’t matter. Do your kids really need to be involved in so many activities? Do you? Are some of your friends so caught up in their own baggage that they barely know you exist?

Like your house, once your life is clean of these activities and people, you’ll wonder why they ever mattered to you in the first place.

Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” —Mark 10:21
