Surrounded By Time

Surrounded by Time

Why does your awareness of time matter?

Because time is about context. And context defines you.

Context is what surrounds, and what surrounds tends to define you and provide meaning to what you think, say, and do. For instance, the word trunk, while spelled exactly the same, is defined differently when surrounded by phrases like “a hickory trunk in the forest,” “a swaying trunk in the African jungle,” or “a padlocked trunk in the baggage compartment.”

You are surrounded by your past, present, and future. Who you are, what you think, and what you do will most often be guided by what time it is.

Too often—when we lose track of time, the season we’re in, how we fit into what has come before, and where we’re going—we lose our bearings for how to be, how to think, and what we should be doing.

What time is it where you are? It matters.

You may delay, but time will not. —Benjamin Franklin
