Headed In The Same Direction
Headed in the Same Direction
What is a friend?
Someone with shared interests? Someone who makes you laugh? Someone you can call at 3 a.m.? Your answers may vary depending on your perception of what matters. Some people take acquaintances for friends. Some have fair-weather friends who bail at the first sight of rain. Some isolate themselves and have few to no friends.
Once you start journeying toward what matters, you’re going to need true friends. You’ll face opposition. You’ll lose confidence. You’ll trip and fall. You’re going to need friends to help share the burden of the journey.
But the friends you need most must be walking a similar journey. If you’re headed in different directions, they won’t understand where you’re going, and they’ll likely try to stop you. You’ll live in constant temptation to compromise what matters in order to receive their acceptance.
How do you find the right friends? Step out on the road toward what matters. They’ll be headed in the same direction.
One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. —Proverbs 18:24
