When’s the last time you received a hand-written note? Personal words of appreciation, where someone took the time to write about how highly they think of you, perhaps sharing something from their life?

When’s the last time you had a face-to-face, lengthy conversation with another person? A warm exchange of personal news or discussion about a struggle you were going through?

Such exchanges are rare these days. We don’t get our news in notes or personal conversation. We spend our time enticed by gossip, juicy details that mean more to us than learning a firsthand account of someone’s story.

And very often our focus is on the news of some celebrity or national figure, usually untrue and always far removed from the world playing out right in front of our eyes.

What’s new? Shut off the computer or TV. Pick up some stationary or meet someone for coffee, and find out for yourself.
