First Dates

First Dates

You’re surely overdressed. Or maybe underdressed? What will she be like? What will you be like? This is so nerve-wracking. There’s the knock. You open the door.

This is a nice restaurant. Are you smiling too much? Okay, now you’re talking too much. This feels like a job interview. Is your eye twitching? He is good-looking. That mole could be a deal-breaker.

You’ve said goodnight. Was there a spark? It felt pretty good. Will he call? Maybe you should call. Is this second date material?

First dates are a necessary evil. Why is it so hard? Some first dates crash and burn; others lead to second and third dates. And then, who knows?

Enjoy the journey of companionship in dating. Pray that you’ll recognize those who warrant further investigation. Rest in God’s plan for your future spouse. If it’s one of your deepest desires, it’s His too.

And, yes. You’re the one who should call first.

How beautiful you are and how pleasing. —Song of Songs 7:6
