Estranged To Their Need
Estranged to Their Need
There’s another kind of outcast we tend to ignore.
The homeless man who spends his nights in a shelter or sleeping under the bridge. The single mother with five kids, barely making it on food stamps and Medicaid. Maybe you are aware of them but don’t know how to help. You can barely meet your own needs, not to mention the needs of someone you’ve never met.
But the lesson you learn in pursuing the relationships that matter is that your own needs are met more often when you meet the needs of others. Your awareness and compassion for such people is often all you need in order to help. These folks need your money and your ability to assist. But mostly they need you.
Show up. Make a new friend. And see where it goes from there.
“I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me.”
—Matthew 25:35–36
