Crossroads of Connection

The close kinship of brothers and sisters. The blissful memories of visiting grandparents and taking your kids to see your own parents. Aunts. Uncles. Cousins. Big Sunday meals. Holiday traditions. Weekend get-togethers and summer reunions.

Whenever possible, try to keep your connection to extended family. Your parents still have things to teach you and still want to know you love them. You’ll always share with your brothers and sisters a tender communion that no one else understands. Keep in touch with that favorite aunt or uncle who loves the very sight of you.

As much as this great, big world can get away from us, extended families often feel bigger. It’s nice to be reminded that you’re a small cog in a sprawling generational machine.

It means you come from somewhere. It means that, no matter how adrift you might feel from day to day, you’re part of something worth celebrating.

Family life is too intimate to be preserved by the spirit of justice. It can be sustained by a spirit of love which goes beyond justice.
