You’ve heard about the frog in the pot of water? It’s said if you place a frog in a pot of boiling water, he’ll jump right out. However, if you place him in cold water and increase its temperature by small degrees, the frog won’t notice and will eventually find himself cooked.

Clutter is like this. No one would live in a house full of clutter. But you place a piece of junk mail on your desk, buy another pair of shoes, bring home a chair from the yard sale. Six months goes by and your house looks like the city dump. Your frog has been cooked!

Whether it’s paper, clothes, or furniture, most of us are lucky if we can manage what’s right in front of us, not to mention a life full of too much stuff.

You’ll never be at home with what matters if your home is too full of the stuff that doesn’t.
