Why should you learn anything else?

Just because there’s more to learn? Some would say yes. But then you’ll be really smart with nothing to show for it. Gaining knowledge just for the sake of knowing more is an exercise in vanity. Learning about what matters must lead somewhere.

But it’s a good guess that this isn’t the first book you’ve ever read about something that matters. Did you live it out? Did you apply what you learned from the other books?

The reason these questions are important is because many of us live our lives intoxicated by our good intentions. We read book after book about things that matter and never actually do anything.

Experience will be your best teacher. If you really want to learn about what matters, be prepared to do what matters.

But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do. —James 1:25
