A False Peace

A False Peace

Prime Minister of England in the late 1930s, Neville Chamberlain was a leader who wished to preserve peace at all costs.

And while this would be wise under most political scenarios, with the aggressive evil of Adolf Hitler on the loose, many argue that it was the wrong course of action. It is said that Chamberlain’s appeasement allowed Hitler to rise to power and start World War II.

Our goal should always be one of peace. But by avoiding conflict that already exists in our lives, we can, like Chamberlain, sometimes create a false sense of peace that can lead to even greater suffering.

What areas of trouble or conflict do you sweep under the rug, hoping they will just go away? Are you living in a false sense of peace? It won’t last. And it will likely lead to greater suffering.

Your troubles need to be faced if you’re ever to find true peace.

They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. “Peace, peace,” they say, when there is no peace. —Jeremiah 6:14
