The Squeaky Wheel
The Squeaky Wheel
So I say to you, ask and keep on asking, and it will be given to you; seek and keep on seeking, and you will find; knock and keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.
Luke 11:9 amp
“The squeaky wheel gets the grease” is a popular American proverb used to convey that the loudest, most noticeable issue is the one that will get attention. When something is off in our body, mind, or spirit, that issue might become a squeaky wheel that we are quick to notice. We promptly search for an answer, reach out to professionals, or follow trusted advice and hopefully experience relief. But maybe we search for the cause, visit numerous medical professionals, and yet find no answers or relief. The repeated but futile searching might tempt us to give up.
However, the Bible encourages us to persevere. In Luke 18, a widow pleads with a judge to right a wrong done to her. She approaches him repeatedly, and he eventually caves and avenges the wrong done against her. In the story, she could be seen as the squeaky wheel who persisted until she got some type of resolution. Luke explains in verse 1 that the purpose of the parable was to teach us to always pray and never give up.
Being on the journey to find relief from depression can be frustrating. But trust that God hears and is working in his time to heal. Continue to seek God and his direction for healing. God will not be offended by our repeated requests. He is our loving Father who cares about us. He hears us every time we bring a concern to him. We might feel as though we’re a squeaky wheel, but the Lord welcomes our prayers and encourages us to approach him anytime.
Never, never, never, never give up.
Winston Churchill
Never give up, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn.
Harriet Beecher Stowe
Some people think God does not like to be troubled with our constant coming and asking. The way to trouble God is not to come at all.
D. L. Moody
