The God Of The Depressed

One God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

God is sovereign and all powerful. He has no restrictions, no limits, and no need for assistance. Events detailed throughout Scripture demonstrate God’s strength against his enemies, as well as his miraculous workings through the lives of his chosen people as they act in obedience and faith. From Enoch to Noah to Abraham—people stepped out in confidence, rooted in the knowledge that the Lord of Hosts is sovereign.

It can be difficult to walk in the same assurance as those heroes of faith. How do we know that God is really in control? We know because Hebrews 13:8 states that he is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The same God who acted with mighty power in the past is here with us in the present. With all the advancements and sophistication of our world today, God has remained the same. The same God who walked with the Israelites in their moments of disappointment and disbelief walks with us. The same God who healed then can heal today. He is still active and in full control of every situation.

Because we know his character, we know he will not allow us to be overtaken by anything. He governs over all things, including depression. Because he is in full control, we can lean into a peace that passes all understanding.

If there is one single molecule in this universe running around loose, totally free of God’s sovereignty, then we have no guarantee that a single promise of God will ever be fulfilled.
