In Tune With Our Bodies

Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.

The human body is a work of art (Psalm 139:13). The Artist spent intentional time designing each limb, each hair, each organ, each artery, each vein. The way the body parts function together and separately is a feat the best engineers can only attempt to achieve.

After the introduction of sin in the garden of Eden, the ability for our bodies to operate in perfection was lost. Whether it’s the normal passage of time or the way in which we’ve treated our body, our systems will decline.

Living the full life God intended will include paying attention to our bodies. Even without a medical degree, we can notice if something seems “off.” Some things to consider may include: any unusual external changes (i.e. bug bite); sleeping or eating more (or less); just not feeling like yourself.

These are just a few occurrences we may notice about ourselves, but sometimes we are too close to see everything. We can also rely on those closest to us to point out where we do not seem like ourselves. Armed with observations and feedback, we can begin to explore with the right person what may be causing disharmony in our bodies.

God wants us to treat our bodies well. When we care for all aspects of his masterpiece, God can use us to our fullest because we have the energy we need for his work. When we neglect our bodies, we are not equipped to live the life God has for us and we can be missing out on blessings.

God made your body, Jesus died for your body, and he expects you to take care of your body.
