Hope ‘til The End

And we desire for each one of you to show the same diligence [all the way through] so as to realize and enjoy the full assurance of hope until the end.

So many times in life we experience things that bring us to a point of hopelessness. In that state, our perception can be skewed and our mood deflated. If we add the complications of depression, we want to quit. We see no way out or no positive change. We resign to our circumstances, believing this is all there is. We enter the dark tunnel with no light at the end.

To have hope is to want something better for our life, even if it is in the smallest measure. Having hope can help us in the moment, but it also motivates us to keep going. Hope can open our eyes to new possibilities and propel us forward even though we may feel like nothing is changing. Hope is expectation of a positive outcome. And for the Christian believer, we have an expectation greater than ourselves or any circumstance—the Lord Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 6:11 communicates that we should never give up! The verse states emphatically that we can always expect a positive outcome, no matter how much difficulty we face, and no matter how long it takes. We can see our desired outcome come into fruition. See healing? Yes. See wholeness restored? Yes. How can we be so sure? Because our expectations are based on our faith in God’s promises.

Many of us can be tempted to give up. But with faith in Christ, we can actively carry on. If we know we are headed in the right direction, we are taking care of the parts of our health we can influence and leaving the rest to God. By following the guidance of God’s Word, being led by the Holy Spirit and following the recommendations of professionals, we have hope—enough hope—until the end.

Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul and sings the tune without the words and never stops at all.
