JESUS’ ARREST John 18:4-11 Two things stand out to me about the arrest of Jesus. First of all, He had gotten no sleep that night, but He never once lost control of Himself. Even with the torturous proceedings He would be taken through in that kangaroo court, He would never once lose it.

The second thing that stands out to me is His willing, submissive spirit. He really was responding in submission to the Father’s mission. That’s why He came to this earth. He came to die, and He would need to submit to these unfair authorities for that to transpire according to God’s plan.

UNFAIR TRIAL John 18:23-24 Jesus asked a valid question: “If I’m speaking the truth, why are you beating me?” He received no answer, which was the answer. They didn’t have an answer. Annas, without a defense for his treatment of Jesus, shuffled Him off to his son-in-law, Caiaphas, the sitting high priest. This wasn’t a fair trial; it was never meant to be. This was a lynching.

PETER’S DENIAL John 18:25-27 When you come to this scene you don’t want to read, and you study events you don’t want to believe, and you see cracks in the rock that you wish were never there, you also see a real man who was forgiven for real sin. You see a man who became one of God’s heroes, warts and all. There’s nothing hidden—only forgiven.
