John 9 - Every Man's Bible

9:1-12, 35-41  Imagine being blind from birth, not being able to see the people we love and the world around us. Then to add insult to injury, people insinuate that we are blind because of our personal sin or the sins of our parents! Jesus healed this man’s blindness, but the real miracle occurred later when the man’s spiritual blindness was healed. He learned to see through eyes of faith that Jesus truly was the Messiah, the Savior of the world. When we recognize Jesus as our deliverer, we have begun to gain our spiritual sight.

9:13-34  Some people are so blinded by their legalistic attitudes that they cannot see a wonderful miracle of healing taking place right in front of them. This was true of the Pharisees. They were more concerned about the letter of the law and the threat Jesus posed to their authority than about the amazing healing that had taken place. Even though they were exposed to the power of God, they chose to remain blind to the truth. Those who are teachable and humble will discover that God can heal even the most terrible afflictions. It is often the people we think least likely to make spiritual progress who experience healing and deliverance; they are the ones humble enough to ask God for help.
