John 18 - Every Man's Bible
18:15-18, 25-27 The arrest, trial, and crucifixion of Jesus unfolds over several chapters. The injustice of it all makes us angry. We may find ourselves pointing a blaming finger at the religious leaders who instigated Jesus’ downfall. We also see Peter deny Jesus, not only once, but three times—all this despite his earlier assurances of loyalty. We have often done the same thing. We have made steps of faith, only to turn around and deny Christ’s lordship over a crucial area of our lives. Peter meant well when he assured Jesus of his loyalty, but he still failed. Yet his denial of Christ was not the end of the story (see 21:15-19), just as the times we turn back from following Christ fully don’t disqualify us from his love. With Jesus Christ, there is always the opportunity for restoration.
