John 11 - Every Man's Bible
11:3-4 When faced with a critical illness or a hopeless situation, we have two basic options: We can complain and blame God, or we can see the crisis as an opportunity to make a request of God. Mary and Martha asked Jesus to help them when their brother, Lazarus, became sick. Although Jesus did not come immediately and heal Lazarus, he did something even more amazing—he raised Lazarus from the dead. If we can learn to humbly ask God for help, he can even bring life out of death. If he is able to raise someone from the dead, he is more than able to help us.
11:37-44 Imagine being there when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. The man had been dead for four days, and his body had begun to decompose. Then, suddenly, he responded to Jesus’ voice and came walking out of the grave, wrapped in graveclothes! The one who has power over the grave has power to bring new life to us, too (11:25-26). Jesus Christ can set us free from the bondage of sin and death.
