John 9 - The Life Recovery Bible

9:1-12, 35-41 Imagine being blind from birth, not being able to see the people we love and the world around us. Then imagine people insinuating that we are blind because of our personal sins or the sins of our parents! Jesus healed this man’s blindness, but the real miracle occurred later when the man’s spiritual blindness was healed. He saw through eyes of faith that Jesus truly was the Messiah, the Savior of the world. We, too, must recognize that God has the power and the desire to free us from habitual sins, chemical dependencies, and character flaws. Recognizing Jesus as our deliverer is the beginning of our spiritual sight.

9:13-34 The Pharisees were so blinded by their legalistic attitudes that they could not see a wonderful miracle of healing taking place right in front of them. They were more concerned about the letter of the law and the threat Jesus posed to their authority than the amazing healing. They were exposed to the power of God but chose to remain blind to the truth. Those who are teachable and humble will discover that God can heal even the most terrible affliction. Often the people we think least likely to make progress in recovery experience healing and deliverance because they are humble enough to ask God for help.
