Sometimes it feels like I’m under attack. How can I achieve victory?

Ephesians 6:10-12Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

1 Peter 5:8Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

1 John 4:4-6You belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. Those people belong to this world, so they speak from the world’s viewpoint, and the world listens to them. But we belong to God, and those who know God listen to us. If they do not belong to God, they do not listen to us. That is how we know if someone has the Spirit of truth or the spirit of deception.

When we feel like we are under attack, we probably are. We must realize that the spiritual realm is real and that it impacts our lives. But with Christ and the Holy Spirit we are neither defenseless nor helpless. The forces arrayed against us are also against Christ, but they are not equal to him. He is stronger than anything or anyone we may face.

Ephesians 6:16In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.

1 John 4:4The Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.

1 John 5:4Every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith.

Our first line of defense is to draw strength from the fact that God is greater than our enemies or problems. Our faith in God is a shield that protects us from the temptations and criticisms hurled at us every day. Without strong faith, the weapons of Satan and the arrows shot at us by our enemies would pierce and defeat us. So even when life seems overwhelming, we must hold tightly to our faith like a shield. This will allow us to withstand the dangers and discouragements thrown at us. And we have great reason for joy—God has already won the victory.

Exodus 15:3“The Lord is a warrior; Yahweh is his name!”

2 Chronicles 20:15“This is what the Lord says: Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.”

Isaiah 42:13The Lord will march forth like a mighty hero; he will come out like a warrior, full of fury. He will shout his battle cry and crush all his enemies.

Ephesians 6:11Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.

The objective of the forces of evil is to defy God and wear down believers until they are led into sin. This pleases the evil one and gives him greater power over the earth. But God is a warrior. A battle rages in the spiritual realm and, as believers, we are right in the thick of it. God is always ready to fight on our behalf, always ready to come to our defense. In addition, he provides us with armor so that we can fight alongside him (Ephesians 6:11-18). But we must join God the battle or we will be vulnerable and helpless to withstand the enemy. If we join the battle, we are guaranteed victory.
