Why should I fear when trouble comes, when enemies surround me?

There is no need to fear when times of trouble come, when enemies are surrounding me.

God offers to replace your fear with his peace.

Psalm 34:19The righteous face many troubles, but the Lord rescues them from each and every one.

Psalm 37:39The Lord rescues the godly; he is their fortress in times of trouble.

Psalm 50:15Trust me in your times of trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.”

Proverbs 11:8God rescues the godly from danger, but he lets the wicked fall into trouble.

Psalm 116:3-9Death wrapped its ropes around me; the terrors of the grave overtook me. I saw only trouble and sorrow. Then I called on the name of the Lord: “Please, Lord, save me!” How kind the Lord is! How good he is! So merciful, this God of ours! The Lord protects those of childlike faith; I was facing death, and he saved me. Let my soul be at rest again, for the Lord has been good to me. He has saved me from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling. And so I walk in the Lord’s presence as I live here on earth!

God promises to rescue and save you for all eternity.

I meditate on your age-old laws; O Lord, they comfort me . . . Your principles have been the music of my life throughout the years of my pilgrimage . . . If your law hadn’t sustained me with joy, I would have died in my misery. I will never forget your commandments, for you have used them to restore my joy and health.

Psalm 138:3, 7When I pray, you answer me; you encourage me by giving me the strength I need . . . Though I am surrounded by troubles, you will preserve me against the anger of my enemies. You will clench your fist against my angry enemies! Your power will save me.

God gave his commandments to put boundaries of protection around us. Obeying them brings comfort and restores joy and health.

2 Corinthians 7:5-6When we arrived in Macedonia there was no rest for us. Outside there was conflict from every direction, and inside there was fear. But God, who encourages those who are discouraged, encouraged us by the arrival of Titus.

1 Thessalonians 3:7-8So we have been greatly comforted, dear brothers and sisters, in all of our own crushing troubles and suffering, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives us new life, knowing you remain strong in the Lord.

God encourages you through his Word and through other Christians.

God protects you.

Mark 6:45-51During the night, the disciples were in their boat out in the middle of the lake, and Jesus was alone on land. He saw that they were in serious trouble, rowing hard and struggling against the wind and waves. About three o’clock in the morning he came to them, walking on the water . . . They were all terrified when they saw him. But Jesus spoke to them at once. “It’s all right,” he said. “I am here! Don’t be afraid.” Then he climbed into the boat, and the wind stopped. They were astonished at what they saw.

Matthew 8:23-27Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with his disciples. Suddenly, a terrible storm came up, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went to him and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” And Jesus answered, “Why are you afraid? The disciples just sat there in awe. “Who is this?” they asked themselves. “Even the wind and waves obey him!”

Psalm 25:17My problems go from bad to worse. Oh, save me from them all!

God is loving, caring, merciful, and attentive.
