How can I experience the strength of God in my life?

Ephesians 1:18-20I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance. I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.

God’s power to raise Jesus from the dead is the same power that will raise us from the dead when we believe in him. And it is the same power available to us now to live more effectively and courageously for him.

Joshua 1:9“This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Judges 14:6At that moment the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon him, and he [Samson] ripped the lion’s jaws apart with his bare hands.

Deuteronomy 31:7-8“Be strong and courageous! . . . Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.”

2 Chronicles 16:9“The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.”

Psalm 68:35God is awesome in his sanctuary. The God of Israel gives power and strength to his people. Praise be to God!

Isaiah 40:29-31He [the Lord] gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

Isaiah 41:10“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”

Luke 4:14Then Jesus returned to Galilee, filled with the Holy Spirit’s power. Reports about him spread quickly through the whole region.

Luke 24:49“And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.”

John 15:5“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.”

Acts 1:8“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Ephesians 3:16, 20I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. . . . Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.

Ephesians 6:10A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say.

2 Timothy 1:7God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

2 Timothy 2:1Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus.

2 Timothy 4:17The Lord stood with me and gave me strength so that I might preach the Good News in its entirety for all the Gentiles to hear. And he rescued me from certain death.

Hebrews 13:9So do not be attracted by strange, new ideas. Your strength comes from God’s grace, not from rules about food, which don’t help those who follow them.

God promises to give us inner strength powered by his own Holy Spirit when we depend on him and trust him to do what is best for us. When that power is evident in any situation, we cannot predict what the outcome will be except that it will be more than we can imagine.

Exodus 4:10-12Moses pleaded with the Lord, “O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.” Then the Lord asked Moses, “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.”

Judges 6:15-16“But Lord,” Gideon replied, “how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the whole tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least in my entire family!” The Lord said to him, “I will be with you. And you will destroy the Midianites as if you were fighting against one man.”

Judges 7:4-7The Lord told Gideon, “There are still too many! Bring them down to the spring, and I will test them to determine who will go with you and who will not.” . . . The Lord told Gideon, “With these 300 men I will rescue you and give you victory over the Midianites. Send all the others home.”

2 Corinthians 4:8-12We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies. Yes, we live under constant danger of death because we serve Jesus, so that the life of Jesus will be evident in our dying bodies. So we live in the face of death, but this has resulted in eternal life for you.

2 Corinthians 12:7-10So to keep me from becoming proud, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to torment me and keep me from becoming proud. Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

2 Corinthians 13:4Although he [Jesus] was crucified in weakness, he now lives by the power of God. We, too, are weak, just as Christ was, but when we deal with you we will be alive with him and will have God’s power.

1 Timothy 4:8“Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.”

Hebrews 11:32-34How much more do I need to say? It would take too long to recount the stories of the faith of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and all the prophets. By faith these people overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them. They shut the mouths of lions, quenched the flames of fire, and escaped death by the edge of the sword. Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight.

We can experience God’s power in our weakness. When we recognize our limitations and yet do great things for God, we know for certain that our success has come from God’s strength working through us.

Nehemiah 8:10Nehemiah continued, “Go and celebrate with a feast of rich foods and sweet drinks, and share gifts of food with people who have nothing prepared. This is a sacred day before our Lord. Don’t be dejected and sad, for the joy of the Lord is your strength!”

Strength starts in our hearts long before it is exerted in other aspects our lives. The joy that comes from our hope in what God promises gives us strength to obey, endure, and triumph in all circumstances.

Isaiah 40:29, 31He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. . . . But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

Life wears us out, but waiting on the Lord renews our strength. Our limitations shouldn’t paralyze us; they should only remind us to rely more fully on the Lord.

Psalm 138:3As soon as I pray, you answer me; you encourage me by giving me strength.

God’s strength comes through prayer, through keeping our lifeline to God open.
