Is everyone sinful? - Sin - TouchPoints

Is everyone sinful?

Psalm 14:3No, all have turned away; all have become corrupt. No one does good, not a single one!

Ecclesiastes 7:20Not a single person on earth is always good and never sins.

Isaiah 53:6All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.

Romans 3:23Everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

Romans 5:12When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.

All people have sinned against God. The absolute holiness of God means there can be no judgment of degrees of sin. Our sinful condition makes it impossible for us to save ourselves.

Psalm 51:5I was born a sinner—yes, from the moment my mother conceived me.

Everyone is born with a sinful nature. It is a condition at birth, and not something that can be avoided with the right training. We are not sinners because we sin; we sin because we’re sinners.

Genesis 6:5The Lord observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil.

Psalm 19:12-14How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults. Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don’t let them control me. Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

Jeremiah 17:9“The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?”

The human heart is far more sinful than we want to believe. God’s grace is evident in that he gradually reveals our sinfulness as we are ready, though he is fully aware of it all.
