But isn’t my body my own, to do with as I choose? - Sexuality - TouchPoints

But isn’t my body my own, to do with as I choose?

Deuteronomy 22:13“Suppose a man marries a woman, but after sleeping with her, he turns against her . . .”

Sex outside of marriage is so damaging because it has the power to destroy trust, create confusion in relationships, and tear down a climate of respect. Without those things, there can be no real community in the church.

1 Corinthians 6:13You can’t say that our bodies were made for sexual immorality. They were made for the Lord, and the Lord cares about our bodies.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.

When we become Christians, we dedicate ourselves to the Lord, and that includes our bodies. They are no longer truly ours, but his temple. In marriage, our bodies belong not only to ourselves but also to our spouses.
