How can I tell if God is really my first priority? - Priorities - TouchPoints
Deuteronomy 10:12-13“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the Lord your God, and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul. And you must always obey the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good.”
Exodus 20:3“You must not have any other god but me.”
Joshua 24:15“Choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”
Luke 12:34“Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”
If God is the center of our lives, we will make our relationship with him our highest priority. This can’t just be a declaration; it must be proven by consistent action. If we love God, we will long to spend time with him, to talk to him, to listen to him, to think often about him, to please him, and to obey his Word. Our hearts will yearn for him. And it’s the condition of our hearts that really matters to God.
Matthew 6:30-34“If God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”
Colossians 3:2Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.
Seeking the Kingdom of God means being alert to all the ways we see God displaying his sovereignty around us, and living righteously involves responding to and participating in God’s work. Spending eternity with God and others we love should be our highest goal, and everything we do today should invest in that eternity.
