Is God absent in my times of pain and trouble?

Genesis 37:28; 39:3So when the Ishmaelites, who were Midianite traders, came by, Joseph’s brothers pulled him out of the cistern and sold him to them for twenty pieces of silver. . . . the Lord was with Joseph, giving him success in everything he did.

2 Corinthians 4:9We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed.

1 Peter 5:10After you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.

God will never desert those who follow him. He doesn’t take a day off and forget about you. When you accidentally cut yourself, you become completely focused on how bad it is and on how to stop the bleeding. When you feel God has abandoned you, it is because you have become so focused on easing the pain that you have neglected God, forgetting that he has promised to help you and be with you. To abandon you God would have to stop loving you, and he cannot do that, for he is love.
