Is God absent in my times of pain and trouble?

Genesis 37:28; 39:3So when the Ishmaelites, who were Midianite traders, came by, Joseph’s brothers pulled him out of the cistern and sold him to them for twenty pieces of silver. And the traders took him to Egypt. . . . The Lord was with Joseph, giving him success in everything he did.

1 Peter 5:10After you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.

2 Corinthians 4:9We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed.

When you accidentally cut yourself, you become completely focused on how bad it is and on how to stop the bleeding. Feeling like God has abandoned you is often caused by becoming so focused on easing the pain of your problems, neglecting God, and forgetting that he has promised to help you in your difficulties. To abandon you, God would have to stop loving you, and he cannot do that, for he is love.
