Proverbs 29:23Pride ends in humiliation, while humility brings honor.
Overcoming can cause us to think that we are self-sufficient, that we can do things by ourselves and don’t need God. This is pride, which the Lord hates.
1 Corinthians 15:10But whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out his special favor on me—and not without results. For I have worked harder than all the other apostles, yet it was not I but God who was working through me by his grace.
2 Corinthians 1:12We can say with confidence and a clear conscience that we have been honest and sincere in all our dealings. We have depended on God’s grace, not on our own earthly wisdom. That is how we have acted toward everyone, and especially toward you.
Overcoming may blind us to God’s grace at work in our lives. He is the one who enables us to overcome.
