To whom does God show mercy?

God is merciful to all who genuinely seek him.

Psalm 103:11For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.

God is merciful to those with sincere hearts who respect and honor him. Mercy is a reward for faithful obedience.

Psalm 103:8-10He has not punished us for all our sins, nor does he deal with us as we deserve.

God offers mercy to sinners. None of us sinners deserve God’s mercy and yet he gives it gladly. Let us thank God for his patience and mercy and receive it gratefully!

We may not understand why God is merciful to some people, but we should remember the times we have received undeserved mercy ourselves, and be glad.

Romans 9:15-16For God said to Moses, “I will show mercy to anyone I choose, and I will show compassion to anyone I choose.” So it is God who decides to show mercy. We can neither choose it nor work for it.

Psalm 119:132Come and show me your mercy, as you do for all who love your name.

Luke 1:50His mercy goes on from generation to generation, to all who fear him.

Ultimately, God chooses who will receive his mercy. We cannot earn it. We are, literally, at his mercy.
