What is mercy?

Psalm 103:8-10The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever. He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve.

Ephesians 2:4-5But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)

1 Peter 1:3All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation . . .

Mercy is the exemption from the punishment you deserve for your sins. But it is more: It is receiving an undeserved gift—salvation being the greatest gift of all. Mercy is experiencing favor with almighty God when he forgives your sins and gives you the opportunity to receive eternal life if you simply believe in him.
