Why should I be kind to others?

Ephesians 4:32Be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

Zechariah 7:9This is what the Lord Almighty says: Judge fairly and honestly, and show mercy and kindness to one another.

God has been kind to us and asks us to pass it on to others. It is a way to show others Jesus’ love. When we discover how delicious kindness is, we will want to share it with others.

2 Corinthians 8:9You know how full of love and kindness our Lord Jesus Christ was. Though he was very rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich.

2 Corinthians 10:1Now I, Paul, plead with you. I plead with the gentleness and kindness that Christ himself would use, even though some of you say I am bold in my letters but timid in person.

When we are kind, we are following Jesus’ example.

Matthew 25:34-40Then the King will say to those on the right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’

Luke 6:34-35And if you lend money only to those who can repay you, why should you get credit? Even sinners will lend to other sinners for a full return. “Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked.

Jeremiah 32:19You have all wisdom and do great and mighty miracles. You see the conduct of all people, and you give them what they deserve.

Philippians 4:17I don’t say this because I want a gift from you. What I want is for you to receive a well-earned reward because of your kindness.

God rewards kindness because it demonstrates unconditional love. True kindness is not motivated by reward, but we are rewarded for our kindness.

Proverbs 11:17Your own soul is nourished when you are kind, but you destroy yourself when you are cruel.

Colossians 1:10Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and you will continually do good, kind things for others. All the while, you will learn to know God better and better.

Kindness to others is like food for their soul, and essential for our souls as well.

Philemon 1:7I myself have gained much joy and comfort from your love, my brother, because your kindness has so often refreshed the hearts of God’s people.

Kindness is a win/win act of love. It not only nourishes our own souls, but refreshes others as well.

Matthew 7:12“Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.

Do for others what you want them to do for you.

Our kindness encourages kindness in others.

Ruth 2:10-12“Why are you being so kind to me?” she asked . . . Boaz replied “. . . I also know about the love and kindness you have shown your mother-in-law . . .”

Kindness is never lost; it keeps on going from person to person until it returns full circle.
