What is my heritage as a child of God?

Ephesians 1:11, 13-14, 18Furthermore, because of Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us from the beginning, and all things happen just as he decided long ago . . . when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us everything he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. This is just one more reason for us to praise our glorious God . . . I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the wonderful future he has promised to those he called. I want you to realize what a rich and glorious inheritance he has given to his people.

The spiritual legacy of Christ – his sinless life and sacrifice for your sins – gives you the opportunity for a wonderful future with a lavish inheritance beyond your wildest dreams. All you have to do is allow him to adopt you into his family.

1 John 3:1-2See how very much our heavenly Father loves us, for he allows us to be called his children, and we really are! . . . and we can’t even imagine what we will be like when Christ returns. But we do know that when he comes we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is.

You will become like Jesus – not equal to him in power and authority but equal to him in perfection.

Psalm 91:14-16The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue them and honor them. I will satisfy them with a long life and give them my salvation.”

You have an ongoing relationship with God today and forever. Your relationship with God is personal, not merely a philosophical recognition of God. His love is the core of that personal relationship.

Romans 8:32Since God did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t God, who gave us Christ, also give us everything else?

God gives us everything he has. He gave to us from a heart of love. We give back in response to his love.

Matthew 25:34Then the King will say to those on the right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.”

We will inherit all that is part of the Kingdom of Heaven. If we were heirs to a wealthy earthly kingdom, we would feel greatly privileged. How much more privileged to be heirs of God’s eternal Kingdom!

Hebrews 12:1Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily hinders our progress. And let us run with endurance the race that God has set before us.

Our faithful predecessors are part of your spiritual heritage. Their legacy of faith shows God’s faithfulness and work in the lives of his people for generations.

Proverbs 3:35The wise inherit honor, but fools are put to shame!

We will inherit honor. Honor inherited comes from a person of honor.
