How should we “be good”?

Psalm 119:40I long to obey your commandments! Renew my life with your goodness.

The Word of God is a clear statement of what God desires and knows is best for us. To live according to God’s Word is to live according to his will, and that is living a good life.

Romans 12:9Don't just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good.

Job 1:1There was a man named Job who lived in the land of Uz. He was blameless, a man of complete integrity. He feared God and stayed away from evil.

Job followed a plan for pursuing goodness that is simple in design yet so difficult in practice. When we avoid evil and honor God, we become more like God: good.

Romans 12:21Don't let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.

1 Samuel 24:9-10For the Lord placed you at my mercy back there in the cave, and some of my men told me to kill you, but I spared you . . .

Returning good for evil is real victory.

Micah 6:8No, O people, the LORD has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

1 Timothy 5:10She must be well respected by everyone because of the good she has done . . . Has she been kind to strangers? . . . Has she helped those who are in trouble?

Humility and kindness are marks of goodness.
