Why are goals important? - Goals - TouchPoints
Genesis 12:1-3Then the Lord told Abram, “Leave your country, your relatives, and your father’s house, and go to the land that I will show you. I will cause you to become the father of a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and I will make you a blessing to others.”
God’s goals set the agendas for our lives. God’s promise to Abram gave Abram such a strong purpose and direction that he risked everything to pursue it.
1 Corinthians 9:26I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step. I am not like a boxer who misses his punches.
Mark 10:45For even I, the Son of Man, came here not to be served but to serve others, and to give my life as a ransom for many.
A goal keeps you focused on your primary mission and determines how you conduct your life. Jesus’ goal of saving humankind shaped the way he lived every day, guiding each interaction with others.
Job 6:11I do not have the strength to endure. I do not have a goal that encourages me to carry on.
Goals give you strength and endurance.
1 Corinthians 9:16I am compelled by God to do it. How terrible for me if I didn’t do it!
2 Corinthians 5:14Whatever we do, it is because Christ’s love controls us . . .
Goals are motivating.
1 Peter 3:8-9Finally, all of you should be of one mind, full of sympathy toward each other, loving one another with tender hearts and humble minds. Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate when people say unkind things about you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God wants you to do, and he will bless you for it.
Goals can be rewarding when they help and bless others.
Psalm 40:8I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your law is written on my heart.
Goals are fulfilling.
Galatians 6:9So don’t get tired of doing what is good. Don’t get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time.
Philippians 4:13I can do everything with the help of Christ who gives me the strength I need.
Goals are energizing and bring hope.
Proverbs 4:25-27Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; then stick to the path and stay safe. Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.
Goals help keep your eyes on what you are pursuing so that you keep your eyes away from temptation.Galations 2:8
John 17:4I brought glory to you here on earth by doing everything you told me to do.
Goals keep us from doing too much. God is glorified not by you trying to do everything you can possibly do, but rather by you fulfilling the goals he has for you. Just as Peter was called to the Jewish people and Paul was called to the Gentiles, God gives each of us a different role to play in his greater plan.
1 Chronicles 22:1-5Then David said, “This will be the location for the Temple of the Lord God and the place of the altar for Israel’s burnt offerings!” So David gave orders to call together the foreigners living in Israel, and he assigned them the task of preparing blocks of stone for building the Temple of God . . . David said, “My son Solomon is still young and inexperienced, and the Temple of the Lord must be a magnificent structure, famous and glorious throughout the world. So I will begin making preparations for it now.” So David collected vast amounts of building materials before his death.
A leader’s bold vision can help people accomplish great goals. David’s vision for the temple was fulfilled in the construction of a magnificent structure for the glory of God.
