How much should I give?

Deuteronomy 14:22“You must set aside a tithe of your crops—one-tenth of all the crops you harvest each year.”

Proverbs 3:9-10Honor the Lord . . . with the best part of everything you produce. Then he will fill your barns with grain.

1 Corinthians 16:2On the first day of each week, you should each put aside a portion of the money you have earned.

2 Corinthians 9:7You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure.

2 Corinthians 8:12Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don’t have.

2 Samuel 24:24But the king replied to Araunah, “No, I insist on buying it, for I will not present burnt offerings to the Lord my God that have cost me nothing.”

While the Old Testament specifically talks about giving God one-tenth of what we make, the New Testament encourages us to give what we can, to give sacrificially, and to give out of a grateful heart. For many, this will mean giving far more than one-tenth!
