Faith seems so complicated; how can I ever get it? Why does it seem so confusing sometimes?

1 Corinthians 2:14But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means.

Confusion is often the direct result of not knowing God and being tossed about by whatever seems good to you at the time. The line between right and wrong is not clear, and you’re not even sure if it should be. That’s confusing.

2 Corinthians 4:3-4If the Good News we preach is hidden behind a veil, it is hidden only from people who are perishing. Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.

Confusion can be caused by evil. Satan tries to confuse God’s followers into thinking that God cannot and will not help them.

Mark 5:36But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Just have faith.”

Too often we make faith difficult, but that wasn’t what Jesus intended. Faith isn’t complicated. It simply means trusting Jesus to do what he has promised—and he promised to give you life forever in heaven if you just believe he is who he said he is, the Son of God.

Luke 6:13At daybreak he called together all of his disciples and chose twelve of them to be apostles.

Faith is simply a willingness to follow Jesus.

Psalm 131:2Yes, like a weaned child is my soul within me.

Matthew 18:2-3Jesus called a little child to him. . . . Then he said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven.”

Mark 10:14[Jesus] said to them, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children.”

It is not hard for a little child to have faith. The child simply believes with calm assurance that his parents will provide and protect. You can have this same uncomplicated trust in God.
