What kinds of excuses are particularly annoying to God?

Genesis 4:10-11The Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground! Now you are cursed and banished from the ground, which has swallowed your brother’s blood.”

Excusing sin will not be overlooked by God. You can’t hide from him, so don’t bother trying. You are only setting yourself up for future judgment.

1 Samuel 15:15“It’s true that the army spared the best of the sheep, goats, and cattle,” Saul admitted. “But they are going to sacrifice them to the Lord your God. We have destroyed everything else.”

Trying to justify sinful actions with spiritual motives. God is never pleased with sin, even if you think the end justifies the means.

Ezekiel 33:20“But I judge each of you according to your deeds.”

1 Peter 1:17He will judge or reward you according to what you do. So you must live in reverent fear of him.

Trying to make yourself look good when you don’t deserve it. Taking responsibility for our actions is the only way to stop the excuses.

Haggai 1:2-4“The people are saying, ‘The time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the Lord.’”

Neglecting your spiritual priorities by using the excuse that “the timing isn’t right.”
