Obedience takes endurance. Sometimes, others pressure us to disobey; sometimes, Satan prompts us to doubt God’s wisdom; and sometimes, we simply don’t feel like obeying. When those temptations come, we must remind ourselves of why we obey—because of our love for God and his love for us.

1 Peter 1:6-7So be truly glad! There is wonderful joy ahead, even though it is necessary for you to endure many trials for a while. These trials are only to test your faith, to show that it is strong and pure. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—and your faith is far more precious to God than mere gold. So if your faith remains strong after being tried by fiery trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.

Galatians 6:9So don’t get tired of doing what is good. Don’t get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time.

Keep doing good. Persevere in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. It is hard to be joyful when others are bitter, peaceful when there is much to fear, or self-controlled in frequent frustrations. But these small moments of faithfulness are moments where Christ’s light shines through to the world. In the world to come, they will be rewarded.
