Dishonesty results in fear and shame. We fear we will be discovered and our character revealed.

Dishonesty causes a person to be untrustworthy and untrusting. Dishonesty eventually makes one unable to know himself or relate to others. Double standards are no standards at all.

Dishonesty can begin to seem like the truth over time. By believing our own lies, we deceive ourselves, alienate ourselves from God, and lose credibility in our relationships. When we deceive ourselves, we lose our ability to find the truth.
