Will God still work through me, even when I’m sometimes a coward? - Cowardice - TouchPoints
Psalm 112:6-8Such people will not be overcome by evil circumstances. Those who are righteous will be long remembered. They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them. They are confident and fearless and can face their foes triumphantly.
God can transform a coward into a hero as you trust in him for strength and help.
Leviticus 26:36-39“And for those of you who survive, I will demoralize you in the land of your enemies. You will live in such fear that the sound of a leaf driven by the wind will send you fleeing. You will run as though fleeing from a sword, and you will fall even when no one pursues you. Though no one is chasing you, you will stumble over each other as though fleeing from a sword. You will have no power to stand up against your enemies. You will die among the foreign nations and be devoured in the land of your enemies. Those of you who survive will waste away in your enemies’ lands because of their sins and the sins of their ancestors.
And for those of you who survive, I will demoralize you in the land of your enemies far away. You will live there in such constant fear that the sound of a leaf driven by the wind will send you fleeing.
Isaiah 30:15-17The Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says, “Only in returning to me and waiting for me will you be saved . . . But you would have none of it . . . the only swiftness you are going to see is the swiftness of your enemies chasing you! One of them will chase a thousand of you. Five of them will make all of you flee. You will be left like a lonely flagpole on a distant mountaintop.”
God can use cowardice to humble disobedient people, as he had to do with his people a time or two. He called them to be courageous, but they responded with cowardice. There are better ways to learn obedience! It’s far better to start out courageously trusting in God, just as he calls you to do.
Joshua 2:8-11, 24Before the spies went to sleep that night, Rahab went up on the roof to talk with them. “I know the Lord has given you this land,” she told them. “We are all afraid of you. Everyone is living in terror. For we have heard how the Lord made a dry path for you through the Red Sea when you left Egypt . . . No wonder our hearts have melted in fear! No one has the courage to fight after hearing such things.”
1 Samuel 14:15-16Suddenly, panic broke out in the Philistine army, both in the camp and in the field, including even the outposts and raiding parties. And just then an earthquake struck, and everyone was terrified. Saul’s lookouts in Gibeah saw a strange sight—the vast army of Philistines began to melt away in every direction.
God can use cowardice to rout the enemy. Just be sure you are on God’s side!
