Does God expect me to be busy all the time?

Psalm 23:2He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.

Sheep know that food and drink should be consumed in a restful environment, but unfortunately the “fast food” phenomenon is just one symptom of an increasingly restless culture. When we find ourselves foregoing healthy practices or godly opportunities because we are too busy, then we are too busy for our own good.

Matthew 11:28-29Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

Activity itself is not a virtue; it can actually be a detriment to your spiritual life. There are times when the Lord invites you to rest and be refreshed in his care. Realize that rest involves more than giving your physical body a break. How are you getting soul-rest?
