What does God offer us?

Isaiah 55:3, 6-7Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life. I will make an everlasting covenant with you. I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David. . . . Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near. Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong. Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy on them. Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously.

Notice the actions God urges: “Come to me.” “Listen.” “Seek the Lord.” “Call on him.” “Turn to the Lord.” These are all responses to God. In our wickedness we offer God our resistance and rebellion; he offers us the way of repentance that leads to covenant relationship and unfailing love. Our way leads to death; God’s way leads to mercy, forgiveness, and life. God’s offer is one we ought not to refuse.

Romans 10:9If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

In return for our confession, repentance, and faith in him, God offers us mercy, love, pardon, and salvation. This is the deal of a lifetime!

Matthew 13:44 The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field.

Jesus managed to pack some priceless principles into this brief story:

  • We stumble upon the Kingdom of Heaven seemingly by accident.
  • It costs us everything simply to buy the field where the treasure is hidden, but the treasure is actually free.
  • Those who understand the value of God’s Kingdom know that no cost is too great to enter it.
