What are some of my privileges as God’s adopted child?

Romans 8:15So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”

2 Corinthians 6:18“I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”

Ephesians 2:18Now all of us can come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit because of what Christ has done for us.

As God’s children, we have the privilege of calling him Father! The Aramaic word “Abba” conveys both deep respect and trusting intimacy.

Ephesians 2:19So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family.

Hebrews 2:11So now Jesus and the ones he makes holy have the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them his brothers and sisters.

Belonging to God’s family is a great privilege.

Ephesians 1:6-8So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.

As God’s children, we are beneficiaries of God’s kindness.

Matthew 7:11“So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.”

Ephesians 3:6This is God’s plan: Both Gentiles and Jews who believe the Good News share equally in the riches inherited by God’s children. Both are part of the same body, and both enjoy the promise of blessings because they belong to Christ Jesus.

As God’s children, we are recipients of God’s blessings and good gifts.

John 14:1-3“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.”

Romans 8:17-18Since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.

As God’s heirs, we have the honor of sharing in Christ’s suffering and glory. Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later.

1 Thessalonians 2:12We pleaded with you, encouraged you, and urged you to live your lives in a way that God would consider worthy. For he called you to share in his Kingdom and glory.

2 Timothy 2:11This is a trustworthy saying: If we die with him, we will also live with him.

James 1:12God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

1 Peter 1:4We have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.

Revelation 2:26-27To all who are victorious, who obey me to the very end, to them I will give authority over all the nations.

Revelation 3:21Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne.

The privilege of being a child of God does not stop with this life but continues into eternity. We will always have a relationship with God. Even our inheritance is eternal, for we will live with him forever!
