What are some of the absolutes of the Christian faith?

Exodus 20:1-17Then God gave the people all these instructions . . . “You must not have any other god but me.”

God gave us the Ten Commandments. They are absolute truths that apply to all people in all cultures for all time. Obeying these commandments will point one’s life in the right direction, make it more fulfilling and satisfying, avoiding much harm, and keeping one’s focus on the only God who can grant eternal life.

Psalm 147:5How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension!

Numbers 11:23Then the Lord said to Moses, “Has my arm lost its power? Now you will see whether or not my word comes true!”

Acts 5:29But Peter and the apostles replied, “We must obey God rather than any human authority.

Romans 8:31-39Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? . . . No . . .  nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Malachi 3:6I am the Lord, and I do not change. That is why you descendants of Jacob are not already destroyed.

Hebrews 6:17-18God also bound himself with an oath, so that those who received the promise could be perfectly sure that he would never change his mind. So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.

Hebrews 13:8Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Numbers 23:19God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?

1 Chronicles 16:34Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.

James 1:17Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.

God’s character is unchanging. He is consistently all-powerful, absolutely good, the originator of truth, all-wise, consistently faithful and loves us unconditionally.

John 14:6Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”

Acts 16:31They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household.”

Romans 3:22, 30We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are . . . There is only one God, and he makes people right with himself only by faith, whether they are Jews or Gentiles.

Romans 6:23For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

There is absolutely only one way for a person to enjoy eternal life in heaven. Salvation is a gift from God available to us through faith in Jesus Christ alone.

Acts 13:38-39Brothers, listen! We are here to proclaim that through this man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins. Everyone who believes in him is made right in God’s sight—something the law of Moses could never do.

1 John 1:9But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

God’s forgiveness is absolute. When he forgives you, it is forever. He never takes it back.

Acts 2:24, 31But God released him from the horrors of death and raised him back to life, for death could not keep him in its grip . . . David was looking into the future and speaking of the Messiah’s resurrection. He was saying that God would not leave him among the dead or allow his body to rot in the grave.

1 Corinthians 15:4-6, 20He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. He was seen by Peter and then by the Twelve. After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died . . . But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead. He is the first of a great harvest of all who have died.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is an absolute truth of the Christian faith. Because he was raised from the dead, he has conquered death, and therefore his promise of eternal life to all who have faith in him is certain.

Ephesians 1:13-14And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people.

Acts 2:38-39Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.”

The presence of the Holy Spirit is an absolute guarantee to those who believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

1 John 2:24-25So you must remain faithful to what you have been taught from the beginning. If you do, you will remain in fellowship with the Son and with the Father. And in this fellowship we enjoy the eternal life he promised us.

Titus 1:2This truth gives them confidence that they have eternal life, which God—who does not lie—promised them before the world began.

John 3:16For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

John 11:25-26Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die.

Eternal life is a promised gift to those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
