You Can Do Anything

Bible Blast: Read Joshua 6:1-20

Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. Philippians 4:11-13

When Ben Underwood was three, doctors had to remove his eyes to save him from cancer. Imagine the incredible grief in his mom’s heart when Ben awoke from the surgery and cried, “Mommy, I can’t see.”

His mom bravely responded, “No, you can’t see with your eyes, but you still have your ears and your nose and your mouth. You’ll learn to use them instead.” And Ben did.

Ben learned to use echolocation. By clicking his tongue and then listening, he could hear the echoes bounce off objects to help him determine where and what they were. His skill was so sharp that he could tell you exactly what he was walking around. You can see video footage of Ben online as he skateboards, wins pillow fights, and even plays video games using his gift.

Sadly, Ben’s cancer returned, and he died when he was just sixteen. Still his mom was able to rejoice that he was with Jesus in heaven. In a letter to the world, she said, “God has used Ben’s life in such a way that his life has blessed people of every walk of life, all around the world.” That’s because of the joy with which Ben clicked his tongue. It was like praise to his God!

Ben was a lot like Joshua, who conquered a well-fortified city with just the blast of trumpets. In some places the city had walls up to twenty-five feet high and twenty feet thick. But the loud praise from the trumpets brought the walls down! God used this to set the stage to win every other battle that Israel needed to win to gain the Promised Land.

Sometimes the great things God wants you to do require you to step up and act in faith. What does God want you to do today? Why not start with just some praise?

Girl Gab: Make some noise for Jesus Christ today. Just like Ben and Joshua, and just for fun, blast a trumpet or turn on a radio and dance some praise to God!
