Finding the Right One

How will I know when I’ve met the person I should marry?

God’s Response

His father and mother objected. “Isn’t there even one woman in our tribe or among all the Israelites you could marry?” they asked. “Why must you go to the pagan Philistines to find a wife?”But Samson told his father, “Get her for me! She looks good to me.” Judges 14:3

Some time later Samson fell in love with a woman named Delilah, who lived in the valley of Sorek. The rulers of the Philistines went to her and said, “Entice Samson to tell you what makes him so strong.” Judges 16:4-5

Samson never did get a clue. He wanted what looked good to him, regardless of the girl’s character or the advice of his parents. As you date people, look for godly character in them. Ask God right from the start to show you who would be a good mate for you. As you focus more on someone’s character and integrity and less on outward appearance, your discernment will grow. Does God have a specific person for you to marry? The Bible isn’t clear about that, but it is absolutely clear on the kind of person you should marry. The closer you get to God, the clearer that choice will be.
