A New Morning Routine - The One Year Devotions for Men on the Go

A New Morning Routine

Read Psalm 90

Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives. Psalm 90:14

The annoying alarm, the shower, and the quick stop at Starbucks for coffee and a bit of breakfast—if you are lucky! Does this sound like most of your mornings? If you could, would you trade it in for a new routine? Check out these options:

  • “The next morning Abraham was up early and hurried out to the place where he had stood in the Lord’s presence.” (Genesis 19:27)
  • “Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.” (Psalm 5:3)
  • “But I cry to you for help, O Lord; in the morning my prayer comes before you.” (Psalm 88:13, NIV).

Here are some things you can do to make your time with him in the morning a satisfying experience and not just a routine:

  • Wake to the sound of a Christian radio station rather than the buzz of an alarm.
  • Before you even get out of bed, pray about your day and ask for God’s help.
  • Read a Psalm or a Proverb. Write down a phrase from the passage you read and post it on your mirror or desk so you can meditate on it all day.
  • Read a devotional.
  • Record your prayers in a journal.

If you begin your day with God, if you make the very first moments of the morning your time to spend with him, you will see results, namely a heart that rejoices and sings throughout the day.

Lord, I will see you in the morning.
