If Mama Ain’t Happy . . . - Leaning on the Promises of God for Moms
If Mama Ain’t Happy . . .
There’s one thing children want that we seldom consider: a happy mama. Happiness is not always a feeling, but a choice that comes from a heart that desires to please God. Happiness is an attitude that says, “This is the day the Lord has made! I will rejoice and be glad in it.” Of course, developing this attitude is another thing altogether. Here are some things I have done to cultivate happiness in my home:
- Greet your children or husband with a blessing when you first see them. Kiss your husband in front of your children—this makes them feel happy and secure. Take the time to tell him goodbye before he goes to work.
- Say things like, “I am the most blessed mama in the world to have you as my little boy.” “Good morning, sunshine. I am happy to see you this morning!”
- Place things in your life that give you happiness or a sense of fun. Think flowers, walks at sunset, back rubs, sitting on the deck and watching the pines sway in the wind, etc.
- Practice being thankful every day—take time to look at the antics and into the eyes of your children and thank God that they are with you now.
Today, put some of these ideas into practice. And thank God when you see flowers, stars, color, sunsets, and all the other things He made for us to enjoy!
His Promises
Take delight in the LORD,
and he will give you your heart’s desires.
With joy you will drink deeply
from the fountain of salvation!
You will show me the way of life,
granting me the joy of your presence
and the pleasures of living with you forever.
