Better Together - Leaning on the Promises of God for Moms
Better Together
I remember watching the sunrise with one of my best friends when I was a young teen. We bundled up and took flasks of coffee to keep us warm in the early morning chill. Picking a soft spot of grass, we watched in awe as the sun rose in all its golden glory. Something about it caused us to think about true and beautiful things, and we ended up sharing our dreams of what life might be.
While the sunrise would have been just as lovely had I watched it on my own, it would not have been as meaningful. Having someone to share the moment with sealed the experience as a moment of significance in my life.
I believe this is how true friendships impact our lives. In friendship we share beauty, acknowledge significant moments, and cherish memories that sustain us through life. We become companionable witnesses to God’s goodness, witnesses who can later remind one another who we are and to whom we belong.
We are so much more vulnerable to attack when we are alone. It is easier to become depressed, defeated, or prideful without friends who cheer us, correct us, and fight for our good. When we reach points of deep discouragement, convinced we can never progress, true friends lift our heads and say, “Remember who you are! God has worked, and He will again.”
His Promises
Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.
As iron sharpens iron,
so a friend sharpens a friend.
There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
