Poor Connections - Habits of the Heart

Poor Connections

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Romans 12:2

Jesus often withdrew from crowds and busyness to be with his Father. If Jesus thought it essential to “unplug,” how much more ought we to do the same in an age of mass communication and technology?

We live with constant interruptions, and as a result, we have become distracted, poor listeners, and unable to connect deeply with others. Unplugging is detaching from routine distractions, especially technology, to be fully present with God and others. Unplugging will take effort and intentionality, but it is important for our spiritual growth and relationship with God.

This week will focus primarily on helping you assess your use and need of technology and how it impacts your relationships. You may feel uncomfortable letting go of being “connected.” When you are tempted to reconnect too soon, focus instead on your connection with God.
